Wagoneers. Times have sure changed since I was growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, tooling around on my Mongoose BMX bike, looking for curbs, ramps, dirt piles, anything to launch off of. BMX has pretty much been replaced with X-games freestyle halfpipe stunts and I’m no longer so interested in launching my body into the air on top of two wheels. The thing that hasn’t changed is my love for biking. I try to get out and ride at least 4 times a week and lucky me, I live in a climate that lets me do that most of the time!
This weekend gave me the chance to put my love for biking to the test, and to accomplish one of my long-term goals. Yesterday I spent 6 hours and 42 minutes riding my bike 101 miles through the beautiful California countryside in the Chico Wildflower 100. This marks the completion of my 2013 New Year’s resolution (ok ok, 4 months late, but better late than never), to ride a ‘century’ or 100 mile ride. The day was rainy and cold making the riding tough, but 4,000 other riders provided the inspiration needed to complete the arduous but rewarding task.
Needless to say I’m pretty exhausted today, but since I have stuff to do I’m gonna fire up some of my favorite bluegrass tunes (Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder) and let their energy find it’s way into my spirit!
